"They killed him for no reason Bradford's aunt, Catherine Jewell, told reporters Saturday.
Jewell said that her nephew was in the army and home for Thanksgiving.
"He was a great man, he was very decent," she said. "They did it wrong."
Protesters who supported Bradford gathered in the mall Saturday and said signs like "stop police killings."
Rector said Friday: "Investigators now believe that more as two persons were involved in the original altercation. This information indicates that there is still an armed man who could be responsible for the shooting of the 18-year-old man and the 12-year-old girl.
Rector on Saturday did not respond to a request for additional comment from ABC News
The 18-year-old was recently in serious condition and the 12-year-old, an innocent onlooker, was last in Stable condition reported.
The Sheriff's Office of Jefferson County has handed over the investigation into a potential conflict of interest to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
"We found that one of the witnesses is closely related to a sheriff's office swearing staff," said Randy Christian, chief representative of the sheriff's office in Jefferson County. "In order to remove all perceived prejudices, we have handed over the investigation to ALEA at the request of the district attorney."
The officer involved in the shooting was transferred to the administrative leave until the result of the investigation.
