In a science-inspired gambit, robotic researchers demonstrated how tiny palm-sized drones can be forcefully force their own mass 40 times by anchoring themselves to the ground or walls , It's a look at how small drones could more actively manipulate their environment, much like humans or larger robots.

"Teams of these drones could cooperate cooperatively to perform more complex manipulation tasks," says Matt Estrada, a graduate student in engineering at Stanford University. " We have shown how to open a door, but this approach could be extended to turning a ball valve, moving a wreckage, or retrieving an object of interest from a disaster area."
