Toys R Us will soon close its Lake Charles store after 22 years of business, leaving few options for local shopping in an increasingly online-dominated market.
The decision came after corporate executives launched this week the remaining locations in the US after a disappointing Christmas season – the last straw for the indebted company.
Toys R Us was once the toy store for millions of Americans and has been used by online savvy retailers like Amazon and Walmart in recent years. The New York Times reported that online toy sales in the United States have risen by more than 55 percent over the past two years.
In an email to the American Press, company spokeswoman Nicole Hayes confirmed that all Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores in the US will close, including the site of Lake Charles.
