TripAdvisor, where indiscriminate people rate everything from hotels to helicopter flights, have just released a list of the country's best pizzerias. And the winner is in – wait for that – Boston? The Regina Pizzeria, which has been open since 1926, is definitely a surprising choice for the top spot. (Joseph Hernández, deputy editor-in-chief of food and restaurants, said it was "meh.")
And Chicago? Nowhere in the top ten
Which cities have the top ten? How about the pizza paradises of Anchorage, Alaska and Tulsa, Oklahoma? To make matters worse, Nashville, Tennessee has not one, but two restaurants in the top ten. This is the strangest list of pizzerias we have ever seen.
What's even more confusing is that Tripadvisor has released a list of the ten best pizza cities in the same breath, with Chicago right at number two behind our Staude pizza pub, New York. According to the website, the top rated pizzeria in Chicago is Lou Malnati's, which sounds straight to a tourist-oriented site.
We have questioned the merits of this list. According to TripAdvisor's methodology, the winners were chosen based on "Quality and Quantity of Ratings," which means that the obvious places were far easier to slice than the smaller ones.
And should we trust these people? Who knows the most about cities? Tourists! Obviously, the people who fly in, spend a minimum number of days, meet all the obvious spots, know what's going on.
