President Trump criticized one of the co-captains of the US Women's World Cup because she had protested during the tournament in France during the national anthem against the team's games.
Trump, who has spoken out about protests from NFL players, made comments on 33-year-old Megan Rapinoe to The Hill during an anthology interview on Monday during the anthem.
"No. I do not think so, "he said when asked if he thought she should protest.
Rapinoe has refused to sing the "Star Spangled Banner" before each game during the tournament to protest the injustice in the US. In the past, she knelt during the anthem even in other games of the US national team.
"I'll probably never put my hand over my heart," the 33-year-old national co-captain recently said in an interview before the contest began. "I'll probably never sing the national anthem again."
Trump made the comments hours after the women's team had scored a 2-1
