President Donald Trump beat Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren for claiming to be a Native American woman with a tweet on Tuesday saying she was cheating the public by pretending to belong to another race ,
On Monday, Warren released the results of a DNA test that suggested she was between 1/32 and 1/512 Native American. Trump constantly attacked her for claiming to have Cherokee heritage while she was a professor at Harvard, often calling her "Pocahontas" an insult.
She also created a website and published a five-minute video showing her family in Oklahoma, where she was born and raised, along with the Stanford University professor who ran the DNA test as part of her Senate re-election campaign.
However, other scientists have quickly pointed out that DNA testing can not prove descent. In addition, almost all Europeans in Europe who have long enough family lines in the US have a certain amount of Native American DNA.
"Now that her claims to be an Indian heir have turned out to be a fraud and a lie, Elizabeth Warren should apologize for committing this fraud against the American public, whom Harvard called a" person of color and otherwise would not have taken her! "Trump tweeted.
While Warren's claim was not finally refuted, her DNA press flash appeared to be violent.
Warren initially appeared triumphant, challenging Trump to fulfill his promise in July to donate $ 1
But the Native Americans and their own party quickly turned around them.
David Axelrod, former strategist of President Barack Obama, tweeted: "Pretty out-of-the-ordinary video showing up before the start, saying: 1) @SenWarren runs 100% 2) She holds this Pocahontas crap for a potential problem 3) She wants to dispose of it now so it will not be over-emphasized, the risk she's certainly considering? "That's what it adds."
Jim Messina, Former US President Barack Obama's Campaign Manager, Tweet : "Show the stuff you want, but why 22 days before a crucial election where we need to win the House and Senate, why America did @SenWarren make their announcement now – why can Dems never stay focused ? "
Chuck Hoskin Jr. Secretary of State of the Cherokee Nation described the test cited by Warren's report as" useless "in determining tribal citizenship. He claimed she "undermined tribal interests" with her "continued claims to tribal heritage".
"DNA testing is useless to determine tribal affiliation, and current DNA testing does not even distinguish whether a person's ancestor was native to North or South America," Hoskin said in a statement.
However, Trump's attack on Warren appeared to have gone too far and became factually flawed when he stated that Harvard had "not" taken her "only" for her claims to the natives' heritage.
The Boston Globe reported in September that Harvard Warren never considered himself an Indian during the application process in the 1990s.
Warren has long been an outspoken Trump critic and remains a much-debated potential presidential candidate for the Democrats in 2020.
