There was no official reason given for Morgan's removal, nor is he mentioned in the emails, but the National Bo Patrol Council, the border guard union. Morgan was the first Border Patrol boss to be called to this position without ever having worked as a Border Patrol agent.
A source reported to Axios that union president Brandon Judd had informed the president that Trump will remove Morgan in January 2017. Since Trump appointed Morgan head of the ICE, Judd has become more complimentary and has told Politico that his experience with the FBI has made him a good choice.
