President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that his Chief of Staff John Kelly would be leaving the position by the end of the year.
"John Kelly will leave at the end of the year and we will announce who will take John's place," said Trump. added that there could be an interim chief of staff. "I really appreciate his service."
Kelly's withdrawal has been expected, according to sources in the White House.
His term of office has been marked by conflict since he took up his position last summer. Reports have reported disagreements between President Kelly and the staff of the West Wing.
The recent clashes with First Lady Melania Trump added to his already weak position, NBC News reported last month.
