President Donald Trump announced on Twitter late Monday that the US Immigration and Customs Authority would initiate the process of "removing millions of illegal aliens who have found the illegal way to the US".
"They are being removed as soon as they come," said Trump.
Mike Morgan, the agency's director, did not announce any new initiatives while in Louisville on Sunday talking about the humanitarian and national security crisis at the border.
ICE did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News for comment.
Earlier this month, Trump announced that the US has signed a treaty with Mexico, which includes plans to return asylum seekers to Mexico, where they remain until they can be processed.
