According to Twitter, Jones also has to delete the offensive tweet, although it was not immediately clear which tweet was singled out.
Jones gained notoriety for creating conspiracy theories about events such as September 11 and Sandy Hook Shooting. Most insultingly, he claimed that Sandy Hook shooting was a fiction, and that mourning parents and classmates were actors. As a result, parents were abused by his followers.
The conflict between freedom of expression and abusive and harmful claims is one of the biggest challenges technology companies face. Apple has reportedly made its own decision at the highest level.
Fake news, which is believed to have played an important role in influencing the US presidential election and the Brexit referendum in Britain, is about democracy itself.
