Notre Dame 24, UConn 14 End of 1Q:
UConn finally leaves and meets two threes and a Katie Lou Samuelson at the buzzer. But it's still a 1
also. KOBE IS HERE!
Notre Dame 15, UConn 6, 4:00 1Q:
This Notre Dame defense still causes UCONn a lot of problems. The Huskies are 0-for-6 behind the bow in the first quarter so far. They guard Katie Lou Samuelson and work perfectly.
Notre Dame 7, UConn 2, 7:55 1Q:
Notre Dame jumps early in the lead. The Irish came out in a 1-3-1 zone, which causes UConn some problems, making this game a half-court. This is the first time that Notre Dame has left all tournaments behind.
En route to yet another Final Four, and having made it through almost a calendar year without loss, UConn Huskie's Notre Dame's No. 1 descendant in Columbus, Ohio, will be on Friday night at 9:30 pm ET (the second game).
The team does not like to think about it, but last year's NCAA tournament was a hard one for UConn because it was knocked out of the tournament for the tenth consecutive round in an overtime loss to Mississippi State. You may not think about it, but that does not mean people will forget you.
"I have no choice but to think about it, because it grew up in almost everything I do, so I think about it all the time," said UConn boss Gabby Williams after their victory over South Carolina in the elite eight.
Williams and co. certainly do everything to avoid the same result. Already at this tournament, they have set all sorts of NCAA records with their 140-52 win over St. Francis (Pa.), A 25-point win over Quinnipiac and a 13-point win over Duke a 94-65 win over No. 2 South Carolina.
In UConn's victory over the Gamecocks, both Gabby Williams and Crystal Dangerfield scored more than 20 points, with Dangerfield 5-by-5 from the bow in the first half. Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier each had big games of 17 and 16, respectively, and the team set a new school record for the most points in the NCAA Elite Eight game.
Nothing was so easy This season, for Notre Dame Fighting Irish, injured because of injuries, only seven players were on the bench – beating UCon would be very important. Not just to enter the championship game, but to retaliate for the loss they suffered from the Huskies in December.
The Irish have done well so far in the tournament and won with margins of six to 26 points. Her recent victory was over the number two Oregon Ducks, and despite some leadership changes during the match, Notre Dame gained conditioning 94-84. It was a real team effort with four players well over 10 points, Kathryn Westbeld leading the team with 20 points, followed by Arike Ogunbowale (19), Jessica Shepard (18) and Marina Mabrey (15).
In a rare tournament occurrence, all Final Four teams are No. 1 seeds that should make college basketball for a great evening of women. With UConn charging through opponents, and Notre Dame surviving his enemies, it could be a long night in Columbus.
