KAMPALA, Uganda – Ugandan popstar politician Bobi Wine has been released on bail
The 36-year-old legislator, who is actually known as Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has been in custody since 14 August.
Ssentamu was released Monday by a judge in the northern Ugandan city of Gulu. He was released along with others who were also charged with high treason for alleged roles in an incident in which the President's column was stoned.
Ssentamu was initially charged with a military court for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition. These demands were later withdrawn.
Authorities were pressured to free Ssentamu, who questions the long reign of President Yoweri Museveni.
Ssentamu's detention has provoked at home street protests and indignation from top musicians the world.
