United flight 516 returned Monday morning in the first 30 minutes of the San Francisco airport, data on the flight detection site Flight Aware shows. The plane flew to Washington Dulles International Airport.

"United Flight 516 returned to San Francisco on its way to Washington Dulles International Airport safely had reported a mechanical problem, "United told TODAY in an e-mail message. "The flight is expected to depart for Washington at 12:15 Pacific Rim."
