Here are five thoughts about Oklahoma's 39-27 Big 12 Championship win over Texas at the Arlington AT & T Stadium:
A sequence decided the game
Oklahoma experienced a rollercoaster of emotions in the middle of the fourth quarter. First it was Kyler Murray who hit CeeDee Lamb on the left side of the left. Lamb made one man missing, then a few more Texas defenders, but in the end he fumbled after he got blind. Two pieces later, however, Sam Ehlinger fell back and was drilled in the end zone by a raging Tre Brown. This game gave OU a 32-27 lead and the ball back. OU finally scored on the next drive with a nice one-handed grip from Grant Calcaterra.
Texas was almost unstoppable in third place against the Sooners. UT converted 7 out of 1
The Defense of Texas Made Oklahoma to Work
Oklahoma's offense still had its points, but Texas let the Sooners work for every inch. OU launched a series of 300-yard rushing games caught in Arlington. Oklahoma ended at just 129 yards and only had one try for more than 10 yards. Through the air, the Longhorns were solid when they needed it, earning a few key-pass crashes on some Marquise Brown touchdowns.
Marquise Brown's Suffering
When he speaks of Brown, he played for the first time poorly his career in Oklahoma. The All Big 12 receiver has lost four passes, including two that have gone for touchdowns. The Texas defenders made it difficult for him, but these are games that Brown made during his time at Norman. Brown had suffered a foot injury in the last quarter of the third quarter, so he could not use his late game with some late-game exploits. He finished five catches for 54 yards on ten goals.
Kyler Murray and the O-Line
Although the Sooners barely had the ball to run, the OU's offensive line was generally excellent. Heisman Trophy contender Kyler Murray had the whole day in his pocket and he used it. He finished 25 of 34 for 379 yards and three touchdowns, including the winner of Grant Calcaterra. He avoided turning the ball over, which was a problem at big games this season. Murray also rushed for a few key-downs totaling 39 yards at 10 carries.
