SAN FRANCISCO – Bruce Bochy must have had a surprise when he checked his cell phone on Sunday afternoon.
After spending days talking about the need to rebuild the lineup, Bochy made a flight to New York to see Trevor Hoffman's "Hall of Fame" induction. His team eventually broke out, and Buster Posey led the offensive charge in a 8-5 win against the Brewers. The Giants had a losing streak in four games and got a game against the Dodgers, who had no chance in Atlanta.
Here are the details …
– Pablo Sandoval wowed the crowd with a double triple that came top in the fifth round, and then ran home to beat Christian Yelich's throw at one Medium Fly Ball to the right. But Sandoval grabbed his right Achilles tendon when he got up and was replaced by Austin Slater at the top of sixth place.
– Junior Guerra left Gorky's Hernandez, Andrew Suarez and Andrew McCutchen with one out of the third. Posey cleared the bases with a double on the gap in the left center. Until this swing, Posey did not have a three-RBI game all season. Posey had four hits in the afternoon.
– Gorky's Hernandez smoked a ball in midfield in the fourth. The Homer had a starting speed of 107 mph, the second fastest of the year for Hernandez. It was the hardest hit of his 12 bombs.
– Andrew McCutchen was removed in the top of the eighth. It was unclear what bothered him, but it took him a long time to get off the field after the At bat in the bottom of sixth.
