UPDATE: The owner / operator of McDonald's on West Market Street states its restaurant is committed to a safe and clean environment. This is the case after the Ministry of Health has confirmed that an employee has been tested positive for hepatitis A.

"We are committed to providing a clean and safe environment for anyone visiting our restaurant. We're working with the Northeast Tennessee Health Department to make sure our guests and crew are still doing well.

1; The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed with News Channel 11 that an employee of McDonald's West Market Street restaurant is investigating a case of acute hepatitis A. [TN] Health Department staff said that customers who visited the restaurant between 12:00 and 22:00 and 23:59 on Wednesday, July 24 may have been exposed to the disease.

On Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1, there will be a hepatitis A vaccine at Princeton Road 219 Clinic from 8am to 6pm.

The press release said: "Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease caused by infection with the hepatitis A virus. The symptoms can range from a mild illness of a few weeks to a serious illness of several months. Hepatitis A can spread if a person takes fecal matter even in very small amounts. People who have been exposed to hepatitis A can reduce their risk of disease by receiving a hepatitis A vaccine within two weeks of exposure.
