A Davis police officer was shot and killed on Thursday and the suspect is being sought. 19659002] Police say officer Natalie Corona, 22, was taken to a hospital where she later died.
The shooting took place around 7:00 pm near 5th and C Streets in downtown Davis. Corona responded to a collision with three vehicles when she was shot, said Davis police chief Darren Pytel.
The police have shelved a shelter for the city of Davis, and officials are narrowing down their location Searching for the area of streets 5th and E in the city center.
Pytel says Corona started part-time at the Davis Police Department in 2016 and completed her field training shortly before Christmas.
Corona had only worked in the field alone for a few weeks before the shooting.
Pytel says the last time the Davis Police Department lost an officer was in 1959.
