Vertu, a luxury smartphone brand, rose from scratch at an event in Beijing, China on Wednesday to unveil its latest smartphone, the Aster P. The handset was introduced in Baroque and Gothic variants, the difference being mainly in the external appearance. The premium smartphones feature a European back case with a titanium alloy frame, calf leather trim and sapphire crystal. and is handmade by professional craftsmen. The phone has a distinctive wing design on the back with flaps that open to reveal the SIM slot.
In addition, the calfskin used on the Vertu Aster P can be replaced with ostrich skin, lizard skin, crocodile skin, etc. according to a report by the Chinese blog CNMO. The wing design on the back also houses a signature of the craftsman behind each unit. As a reminder, in July last year, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy, but the brand seems to have been recovered somehow. It was acquired by Godin Holdings from Turkish businessman Hakan Uzan in March last year.
