Comedian Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, responded to the tanker fire of the popular Otedola Bridge in Lagos, which took the life of many and ruined properties.
Speaking about the incident via his Instagram page, he pointed out that the inadequacies, weakness and nonchalant custom of Nigerian society caused the deadly oil tanker explosion.
He noted that nothing changes these negative to positive, unless there is a connection between citizens and government.
"In organized societies, where traffic is a major problem, tankers and heavy commercial vehicles move at night or at certain times.
" In developed countries, MOT agencies are as serious as the police. In some other areas that have deep coasts, as we do, only one port can not be used for the discharge of basic materials such as fuel, and even then fuel and transport of combustible contents are carried out in controlled ways.
"We are lawless land, and if the government tries to organize these tankers now, they will go on strike, close the economy and run day after day, and we will let them go on, and so will the teachers … try to get them to retrain and qualify with Twitter, they're going on strike and we're back to the status quo.
"We're not punishing people who spend money on projects. Projects that were recorded in the budget and in the released funds. The same people who are hacking the money will now be in the ruling party and persecuting them will turn into a no. And if nothing is done to them, another person will do it.
"Imagine that Nigerians died today due to avoidable precautions and lacking policies and laws that could prevent the tanker from being on that path."
