Virginia vs. Texas Tech Result: Cavaliers win the first national title in the OT thriller about Red Raiders

MINNEAPOLIS – A year after Virginia was ranked number 16 in seed # 1, Virginia broke through with the program's first national championship. If you ask Tony Bennett, the team's players, or any of the alumni at the Minneapolis home or across the country, I doubt anyone would play anything else.

Virginia's 85-77 overtime win against Texas Tech will go down in history as one of the best recent title games and obscure the damnation that took place in the face of the two slowed down slowdowns. Elite defensive teams won in the semifinals on Saturday. When the game started, when both teams scored a 1

in 10 from the field, the jokes began to roll. As the game began to change leadership every few minutes, nobody complained about the fact that the game was getting overtime.

De & Andre Hunter was absolutely outstanding on the biggest stage and had a superb career-high 27 points in 8-by-16 shooting with nine rebounds, often playing against fellow NBA prospect Jarrett Culver. Hunter struck four of his five 3-pointers in the performance, none of which was bigger than this 3-pointer with two minutes of stoppage time.

Hunter was not in court last year because Virginia was injured because of an injury to UMBC, and he even started off slowly with just five points in the first half. But just like in the Auburn game, Hunter had switched a switch after half-time and proved to be the most impressive player on the field.

It was not easy and Virginia should probably never be easy. This is a program that has only three Final Four appearances in its history, but it has repeatedly fought with the Duke and North Carolina for ACC supremacy at various times in the decades of league history. Bennett has won four regular season titles for the ACC, but now he has dismissed any criticism and silenced the doubters by delivering in Charlottesville what no coach from Virginia has done before. This national championship is something that forever changes a college basketball program and its coach. Victory begins in this sport and Virginia had to reach its lowest point in March before reaching its highest peak.

Here's a quick look at the Final Four All-Tournament Team.

  • Ty Jerome, Virginia
  • Kyle Guy, Virginia
  • Matt Mooney, Texas Tech.
  • De & Andre Hunter, Virginia
  • . Jarrett Culver, Texas Tech. 19659012 Guy
