A vitamin B12 deficiency develops when a person does not consume enough vitamin from the diet. Lack of vitamin B12 in the body can lead to insufficient red blood cells being formed. Lack of red blood cells can deprive the tissues and organs of the body of oxygen, which in turn can trigger anemia. Anemia can cause heart and lung problems because the heart has to fight oxygen in other vital organs.

Vitamin B is best produced through nutrition, but some food sources are better than others.
