Vitamin D is produced in the body by direct sunlight. From about late March / early April to late September, most people should be able to get all the vitamin D they need out of the sunlight. A lack of sunlight vitamin may result in bone deformities such as rickets in children and bone pain caused by adult osteomalacia. It has also been shown that signs can also show on certain extremities.
According to the medical website LiveStrong, vitamin D deficiency can contribute to the exfoliation of the nails. According to Toronto-based family doctor Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe considers malnutrition to be one of the top four causes of nail problems such as peeling or cracking.
Lack of fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin D is a major cause.
] "Not only does vitamin D appear to play a role in maintaining nail integrity, but the nutrient is also required for proper calcium uptake and regulation of mineral concentration in a person's blood," Dr. Wijayasinghe.
"Calcium is also needed for nail health. Peeling nails may indicate that low vitamin D levels affect your calcium levels. "

Some people are at risk of vitamin D deficiency.
The Department of Health recommends that a person takes a daily supplement of 1
- is not often outdoors – for example, if you are frail or parental
- In a facility such as a nursing home
- Wear normally Clothing that covers most of the skin outdoors will not get enough vitamin D out of the sunlight.
People who follow this profile should also consider taking a daily supplement of 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year.  The health body warned against exceeding the recommended dosage, however.  Taking too many vitamin D supplements Over a longer period of time, it can cause too much calcium to accumulate in the body (hypercalcaemia).
This can weaken the bones and damage the kidneys and the heart, the health department explained.
"If you decide to take vitamin D supplements, 10 micrograms a day are enough for most people," it says.
Humans can also replenish the vitamin through their diet.
According to LiveStrong, "Fatty fish such as salmon is one of the best natural sources."
The Health Authority also recommended choosing foods rich in vitamin D, including plant milk, plain yogurt, or milk, breakfast cereals, and orange juice
Sunlight is still the most effective way to absorb the vitamin, but a person should always remember to cover or protect their skin when exposed to the sun for extended periods to reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer reduce, the NHS advised.
