"John knows our business well, has done many different jobs in the business for over 25 years and is helping to transform it into the future. He has the experience and judgment to know what we continue to do and what we should change. "I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to get started," said Furner. "There is no better place than Walmart USA to touch the lives of millions of customers and employees. Together with the team, we will build on the progress under Greg's leadership and make Walmart an even better place to work and shop. I also want to thank the Sam's Club team. My years with you were incredible. "
"Greg Foran made a big difference to Walmart, and we're thankful," said McMillon. "Right from the start, he set up a strong plan to strengthen the US business – a plan that made important decisions about investing in employee wages and benefits and investing in the price of customers. Greg's drive for innovation equips us for the future, whether it's about making our stores competitive in a omnichannel environment, or equipping people with next-generation technologies and training. The results were impressive – every quarter, as he led Walmart USA, he had positive results. Before he led us to a stronger position in the US, he did the same in China. We will miss Greg and thank him for his guidance. He has made a difference for our customers, employees and shareholders. "
Foran leaves Walmart to head Air New Zealand Limited. He has been CEO of Walmart USA since August 2014 and came to Walmart for the first time in October 2011.
"It was an honor to lead the team at Walmart USA," said Foran. "I'm proud of what we've achieved in a unique retail moment and want to thank the people who made it, it's bittersweet to leave Walmart, but this incredible opportunity, an iconic kiwi brand I could not miss it and am looking forward to this next chapter. "
The company will announce Furners successor as president and CEO of Sam's Club at a later date.
