Monday's episode of "American Idol" featured some of the season's most impressive auditions, from 16-year-old country prodigy Chloe Channell to soulful powerhouse Emma Kleinberg.
But none was more memorable than Nick Merico, the swoony singer who made all judges blush when he entered the room. 19659003] Nick Merico, 22, inspired "American Idol" judges with his take on Amy Winehouse. "Width =" 180 "data-mycapture-src =" "data-mycapture-sm-src =" "/>

"They're Hunkasaurus Rex!" Luke Bryan screamed as Katy Perry grinned and flirting with the Miami resident.
Merico, 22, explained how he grew up with "The Sound of Music" and learned to play the guitar and the piano, always entertaining vocal ambitions, making a detour into acting as a teenager and playing in four seasons of the Nickelodeon sitcom "Every Witch Way."
"It was amazing, but basically I knew that music was always what I wanted," Merico said, "there lies my soul."
Playing the piano, he gave a gentle, rousing version of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" that felt fresh and familiar.
"That was about as close to the humming as I've ever seen," Richie enthused afterwards. "You have that dreamy look, and then you have your mouth open, your sound is amazing, if all goes well, you might be famous."
"Nick, there are some people who can sing better than you, but maybe there are other parts of the puzzle missing," Perry added. "You want to be here because you're talented and a real artist, focus on that."
Auditions are now officially over so that Merico and dozens of other "idol" fans will start Sunday's Hollywood Week (ABC, 8 EST / PST).
