Rockets head coach Mike D & # 39; Antoni broke off the contract negotiations with the Front Office on Thursday, saying he is looking forward to the New Year and a great season.
D & # 39; Antoni, 68, had hoped for an extension by three years and Houston refused $ 5 million in one-year incentive offer.
Team owner Tim Fertitta and general manager Daryl Morey also maintain close relationships with three co-coaches.
Per The Houston Chronicle :
" We did not finish the extension talks "Fertitta said in a hastily agreed media availability after talks with D & #; Antoni had broken off. The job of the agents is to play hardball. I made Mike a great extension offer. It was one of the better basic basketball wages, but also had the highest incentives in basketball. Mike could make 4 million incentives. Business is business.
"I am a very incentive type. When you occur, you want to do something incredible. "
D & # 39; Antoni would not discuss the details of the rocket offering, except that an offer was made that he did not accept.
"We could not get conditions for an extension," said D & # 39; Antoni. "I have another contract. I'm looking forward to the year and a great season. "
" We and Mike are all on one side, "said Fertitta," and I'm thrilled that Mike will be back this year. I am sure that we will sit down after the season of this year and negotiate another contract for Mike as I think we will do well. Mike has no reason to want to train elsewhere. At this point we are very happy with Mike. We had three great years with Mike. We look forward to Mike staying here for many more years.
