(Digital India) Our Milky Way will survive a little longer in its current form than some astronomers had thought, suggests a new study.
The monster collision between our Milky Way and the other spiral galaxy Andromeda will occur about 4.5 billion years ago, according to new research based on observations of the European Gaia spacecraft. Some prominent earlier estimates had predicted that the crash would occur about 3.9 billion years earlier.
"This discovery is critical to our understanding of the evolution and interaction of galaxies." Study, said in a statement.
