WhatsApp finally launches group video and voice calls to its 1.5 billion users around the world. The new feature was first picked up by its parent company Facebook at the annual F8 developer conference in May, but is now ready for primetime.

Top: WhatsApp: Group Video Call

Facebook first introduced group audio calls into its own messenger app in April 201

6, followed by group video calls later this year. In recent years, video calls from WhatsApp's rival messaging apps have risen sharply, while WhatsApp itself has been conducting one-to-one video calls two years ago.

Whilst some of its competitors support up to 200 people WhatsApp keeps things reasonable: up to four people can chat with one call at a time. And you can add new participants to a call while Facebook is already active.

Group calls will certainly be a welcome addition to WhatsApp's global user experience Otherwise, WhatsApp will be happy to focus on its core features instead of fighting counterfeit news.

Meanwhile, Apple is preparing to launch video calls with the upcoming release of iOS 12.
