Mercedes Schlapp, director of the Director of Strategic Communications at the White House, told Fox News on Thursday that President Trump is considering the option of declaring a national emergency to force the construction of his long-promised boundary wall.
That would certainly trigger a lawsuit – theoretically allowing the President to bypass Congress and end the budgetary blockade. Trump said he wanted $ 5.6 billion for the project.
Schlapp, who was with The Ingraham Angle, said the president had consulted border guards who said a physical wall was an effective way to prevent illegal entry at the border. She said that it was clear that the solution would not come out of Congress and that the President "seriously considered other options", including the declaration of a national emergency.
The White House has reportedly begun to proclaim a proclamation to explain the emergency funding for the construction of the barrier.
