Rain Dove, a model associated with Rose McGowan, was in the news after handing over lyrics to Italian actress Asia Argento. The texts could be used as evidence in a possible criminal case against Ms. Argento, who paid $ 380,000 to help Jimmy Bennett, a former child actor, who said she was sexually abusing him when he was 17 years old.
Who Is Rain Pigeon?
Rain Dove Dubilewski is a 28-year-old model who was born in New York and grew up in Vermont. The model prefers gender-neutral pronouns.
Dove said in interviews with The New York Times that as a child they knew that "there was no language I felt" in terms of gender identity.
Dove moved to Colorado in her late teens, where she worked as part of a chain -Saw Fire Prevention Team. Other firefighters treated Dove as a man, and Dove retained a male identity as he worked with peers to prevent and combat fires.
"Every day I spent it the deeper I went in," said Dove. "I was a little bit scared, people were very transphobic and very homophobic."
At some point, Dove sustained an injury when a tree unexpectedly fell and her helmet heated enormously, lighting the right side of her head. (They still have a burn scar.)
Dove started to rethink the job and soon moved to California. They were homeless for a while, lived in their cars, and slept in backyards.
When Did the pigeon become a model?
Dove became a model after losing a bet to a friend who insisted that Dove join her in the modeling world. Three months later, Dove went to a casting for a Calvin Klein charity show in San Francisco. Dove expected her to be a woman, but she was told to come back the next day. This job turned out to be a men's underwear show, where Dove chose to appear on the runway without upset, which greatly angered the casting director.
After that Dove got offers for modeling. At first, Dove was reluctant to start a career as a model to raise money for things that mattered to him.
Dove moved to New York in 2014 to work on a modeling career, but said that agencies only work on the model for men's clothing. Dove signed with Major and said it was the only agency that would allow them to pursue both men's and women's campaigns.
"It was so important to me because I did not feel male or female." Pigeon said. "I just felt like I was me."
Dove had taken a shower in Planet Fitness in New York City during the first year, thinking of stopping modeling. Then, after BuzzFeed published his interview (which Dove called "the androgynous model of your dreams"), more interest began to arouse. Around this time, Dove was introduced to queer community activists who challenged some of the model's claims – for example, that breasts turned men's clothing into women's clothing.
Pigeon appreciated the lead.
"When my career exploded very, very quickly, I was suddenly asked questions as if I were an expert," they said. "I made a very humiliating education of all the information that was withdrawn from me, so I wanted to be able to represent people well."
How did Rain meet with Mrs. Argento?
Dove met Rose McGowan in the fall of 2017, but the two began seeing each other regularly in February. Ms. McGowan had in a public scream match over comments that she had perceived as transphobic and tried to rehabilitate her image. Dove offered help and they soon began dating
Ms. McGowan and Ms. Argento had become tight through their work with the #Metoo movement, and when Ms. Argento's friend, Anthony Bourdain, killed himself in June, Ms. McGowan rushed to Rome to be with her. Ms. McGowan had invited Dove to London to see her before she left, and soon invited the model to Rome.
There, Dove helped Mrs. Argento while she was mourning. Although the two did not become good friends, Dove said that trust arose between them.
When Mrs. Argento faced another crisis, the Times published a few days before she published an article describing how she was to pay Mr. Bennett money. She extended her hand to Dove
. Argento told Dove she was "completely innocent," Dove said. But Ms. Argento soon began to change her story while phoning the model. After Ms. Argento publicly denied having a sexual relationship with Mr. Bennett, Dove said, she knew that Ms. Argento "had no intention of coming through the truth." Dove then decided to send their SMS calls to the police.
"I broke her trust by doing so," Dove said, referring to Mrs. Argento. "I know that I did, this person came to me trustingly and asked for help."
But Dove was frustrated that Ms. Argento, a leader of the #Metoo movement, set the standards she set for others had, would transgress.
"This is a person who said that all people charged with sexual violence need to be completely honest," Dove said. "That's the point where I think you have to do what you would do for other people."
