(CNN) The difficulties with which government employees were forced to work without pay during downtime had not vanished when President Donald Trump reopened the government on Friday for three weeks.
Many of these approximately 450,000 federal employees were forced to come out of savings or find other ways to expand their dollars as the shutdown lasted 35 days. Now they still have to wait for their reimbursements to arrive and wait for the prolonged effects of these lost paychecks to be seen.
Despite the battle on Capitol Hill, nationwide employees were doing their work nationwide. Here are some stories of those who had to work during the longest government downtime in US history:
