Why it took so long to expand World of Warcraft • Eurogamer.net with players of different ethnic backgrounds?

With the addition of New World of Warcraft Shadowlands, players can finally choose characters with ethnic diversity and darker than tanned skin. It only takes 15 years.

The new customization options will be part of a comprehensive customization for all breeds, so that trolls can not show any exposed bones to any type of body tattoo and undead. But why did the ethnic diversity of the characters take so long?

I asked Blizzard duo Michael Bybee, lead producer, and Patrick Magruder, lead gameplay engineer, at BlizzCon 2019 Spend our resources, "Michael Bybee told me." We have time for Characters and art, and we have to make decisions.

"Over the years, we've upgraded all player models to some enhancements in HD resolution. They have a higher resolution, and that was a tremendous amount of resources, and we considered it absolutely sensible. What we really did not want is Put a new skin color on it and say: "Yes, done, we have diversity."

"Instead, we're actually building the skin around faces of those characters to find out what's for that particular ethnic Background actually makes sense. It takes time – but we wanted to do it right. The biggest part there is that we want to make sure this really makes sense in our game. "[19659002]" He is absolutely right, "continued Patrick Magruder. [We’re] Reassemble the faces to reflect the ethnic groups. And that does not just apply to humans: it applies to all races. We offer customization options across the board. The amount of artwork is just incredible.

"To be honest, this is one of my favorite features I'm looking forward to, I'm so glad we're putting this in here, and people can finally say, 'This is me' in the game."

WOW Shadowlands was announced at BlizzCon 2019. As the name suggests, we are taken to the Shadowlands, the world of the dead – the place where we have been running corpses for years. And going there literally opens up a whole world of possibilities.

But the feature that fascinates me most is the level squash. Blizzard reduces the number of levels from 120 to 60 for all players in the game. It contains a lot and I asked for an explanation which I will publish in a separate article.
