Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy: Why did he appear on every talk show?

Stephen Colbert and James Corden of CBS, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers of NBC, Jimmy Kimmel of ABC and Conan O'Brien of TBS were all ready to have a special surprise guest in their respective broadcasts on Thursday night – and this guest was none other than the former anchor of Ron Diego's award-winning Channel 4 news crew, Ron Burgundy.

In a series of previously recorded segments, Will Ferrell appeared as his Anchorman on alter ego. Each performance consisted of a completely original stand-up comedy routine, followed in some cases by a sit-down interview. In fact, O'Brien and Colbert had not hired other guests for their respective programs. Ferrell remained in the character throughout, and not a single host named him his real name.

Burgundy first appeared in Conan which airs at 1

1pm. In the following half-hour he appeared simultaneously in The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show . Colbert and Kimmel welcomed Burgundy for his "exclusive" stand-up comedy debut, while Fallon combined Burgundy as part of an expanded dream sequence.

So why the late-night stunt? Ferrell made the rounds to promote Season 2 of The Ron Burgundy Podcast . Asked what the audience might expect, Burgundy told Kimmel, "We're releasing much of the podcast in Braille!"
