Will Halloween hold the key to a deal between Jimmy Butler and Houston?

Last week, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Rockets offered the Timberwolves four first picks – in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025 – as part of a package for Jimmy Butler.

Later, Shams told Charania that the deal would also include two injured Rockets players: Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss. Charania pointed out in a video on stage that the wolves would not be interested in fighting these two players, but at least she set the parameter for an interesting deal.

Interestingly, however, Chriss and Ritter were acquired by Phoenix in late August. Under the NBA's strange and complicated collective bargaining agreement, they are entitled to their salaries being aggregated as part of a trade package two months after the deal is completed.

This date arrives on Halloween on Wednesday, meaning her salaries (close to $ 1

8 million) this season) would be enough to make Butler's money and make a deal. In addition, one or the other players with other Rockets players could be more easily included in a deal as soon as Wednesday comes.

It could be a contentious issue if the wolves are not interested in winning one of the two players. But we should also prepare for another round of homum- mum as soon as Halloween arrives.

Knight, 26, was # 8 in the 2011 standings and has one year left over $ 15 million for his next year. He is a combo guard who has an average of 15.2 points and 4.3 assists in his career, but he missed the entire season with a cruciate ligament rupture. He had a so-called cleanup operation in September and has yet to appear in a game this season.

Chriss, a 21-year-old power forward and No. 8 in the 2016 draft, has not played this season yet while injuring his ankle but is no longer on the injury report and could make his debut on Tuesday.

Both players could be rotation players for the wolves if they are healthy, but neither seems to be a game changer

A bigger question is how long the wolves are willing to sit on Butler before the Environment becomes so toxic that they are forced to treat it. They probably bought some time on Monday with 124-120 wins against the Lakers with defensive options, but on Wednesday they have Utah before starting a tough five-game road trip on Friday in Golden State.

The Wolves are 3-4 now and have really only looked terribly in one game – the 125-95 home defeat against Milwaukee on Friday. That is, they had many routes in different games where they looked sorted out. If they say 2-4 in their next six games and come back home 5-8, while questions about Butler continue to whirl? Maybe a deal is done sooner rather than later.

That's what Wojnarowski thought about a recent podcast with ESPN colleague Zach Lowe (and yes, it's hard to keep up the chain of ESPN basketball podcasts).

Around the 1-hour mark, Woj and Lowe talked extensively about the Halloween deadline as something that could shake free trade, while Wojnarowski talked about how the fate of wolves could affect a trade.

"This loss for Milwaukee … they are booed at home every night, no one is booed more than the coach, so I think more than anything else will speed up the deal," Wojnarowski said, but before the victory on Monday against the Lakers. "The case that Tom Thibodeau or Scott Layden can make to the owner, that if we are just patient and we play well and win, we have enough time, if things go so badly, that it speeds up this trade process more than anything else. … I would be shocked if it was Thanksgiving, it just feels like it will be sooner. "

There was also a discussion about how the four first-round picks would be a sliding scale thing could, depending on who else is included in a deal.

Just spit here, but what about: Chriss, Eric Gordon – whom the wolves want to crave with every Rockets deal – and three first-round picks? This will give you a young asset (Chriss), a player who will help you stay competitive this year (Gordon) and a lot of potential future help (three tips). Anyway, it sounds like Wednesday's more than just trick-or-treating and the return of old buddy Ricky Rubio to the Target Center with jazz.
