Division Round – Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – Game One
Will the Yankees go to Manny Machado?
Macado obviously fits more than ever to the Yankees, with Didi Gregorius missing thanks to the operation of Tommy John at least half the season. The 26-year-old, who will soon be a free agent, could start shortstop and slip to third base ̵
1; and drop Miguel Andujar elsewhere – when Gregorius returns. Steinbrenner was asked about Machado in the Michael Key Show on ESPN Radio. Machado still plays for the Dodgers in the playoffs, so the owner could not specifically talk about him, as the rules prohibit members of the front of a team from talking about another player.
But Steinbrenner said …
"We will leave no stone unturned," he said. "We'll look at every single option that comes over my desk, I'll think about it, well, I do not know who that is or who it is, we have not started this process yet, and it will not be another week or so take two weeks to start these pro-scouting meetings. "
Will Yankees Pass the Luxury Tax Threshold?
The Yankees ended the 2018 season with payroll below the $ 197 million luxury tax threshold and resumed their sentence for the first time in years. Many are skeptical that Steinbrenner will allow the Yankees to re-enter the mark despite the club's enormous financial resources. He did not rule it out
"You've heard me a million times," Steinbrenner told Kay. "We'll look at every single person on the free agent market as soon as we figure out what our weaknesses are and what we want to focus on, and we will only play players for players." NJAMalds4yyks08.JPG

Was Steinbrenner pleased with Aaron Boone?
Short answer: Yes. Steinbrenner said that although Boone was not perfect, he learned. Strangely, he said that the decision to dismiss Joe Girardi was "years in the making," which was surprising.
"I think he's as advertised," Steinbrenner said of Boone. "I think he was good, any manager will make a mistake, especially a beginner manager, he made some mistakes, the good thing about Aaron is, he admits he did it, and the more important thing, he's ready for learning, sincerely willing to learn from them, so he will grow, I think, overall, the players respect him a lot and he was great in the clubhouse and he has made many good choices but he has done bad but again he will learn . "
Will Sabathia, Gardner return?
Cashman said the Yankees had not discussed the fate of any of their future free agents. They include: Zach Britton, Neil Walker, J.A. Happ, CC Sabathia, Brett Gardner and Andrew McCutchen. Steinbrenner had great praise for Gardner and Sabathia, whom he called "our guides".
"CC was with us forever," said the owner. "Gardner has been with us all his career, they were great leaders in the clubhouse and we just have to see where we end up and what we believe to be our needs."
