Breath of the Wild is an undeniable mass game. There are tons of hidden nooks and crannies that players can sometimes explore in overwhelming numbers. Due to its size, some Easter eggs have gone quite unnoticed since its release two years ago, including a hidden reference to The L egend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
The Easter egg in question is a reference to Wind Waker's Outset Island which bears an eerie resemblance to Breath of the Wild's Lurelins village if you look at it from the top the right angle. The two have a lot in common, from the accommodation of certain huts to a very similar ladder. There are also some geographical similarities between the two, including a nearby land formation. The Easter egg was first noticed by Jon Cartwright of the popular YouTube channel GameXplain, who recorded another video when he realized how similar the two actually were.
It's pretty unbelievable that Breath of The Wild still has secrets that have gone unnoticed. There are sure to be a few more for the players to find as the game is absolutely massive. It's no small secret that it takes years to find some easter eggs, and there have been cases where developers have uncovered such secrets just to give gamers a chance to see the hidden content. Time will tell if Nintendo has anything to do with Breath of the Wild but it will probably take a while to get there, if it ever happens.
At least players can now spend more time browsing the game sites to find other hidden references. The sequel to Breath of the Wild is probably still a long way off, so it should keep the players busy until then.
It will be interesting to see what types of Easter eggs will appear in future entries in the franchise, including the sequel. The game will reuse the Breath of The Wild card, so there may not be any references like this, but Nintendo will surely bring a few subtle nods to fans of the eagle-eyed series. Fortunately, the hunt for these secrets is one of the most entertaining aspects of the game.
The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild is now available for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
