KIEL, Wisconsin. A Wisconsin man was sentenced to prison for bringing "foreign bodies" into Johnsonville bratwurst compounds.
According to officials, Johnsonville Sausage's former employee, Jonathan Tilman Lane, was caught in various kinds of video footage, including cigarette paper and copper wire.
Lane's position was in the final phase of the sausage processing line before packaging, and his actions risked consumer contamination. Officials say Johnsonville shut down the sausage operation and threw away any products that might be affected.
"The significant punishment imposed here shows that any attempt to manipulate consumer goods is taken seriously," US attorney Matthew D. Krueger said. "We recommend Johnsonville Sausage, LLC and the US Department of Agriculture for their effective measures to prevent and investigate this matter
Lane was sentenced to 54 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also fined $ 42,035.
