The WNBA has announced its response to the clash between Brittney Griner and Kristine Anigwe on Saturday night. The incident occurred during the last quarter of a Wings victory over the Mercury.
Griner is faced with the toughest punishment, a ban on three games when he throws punches and the Escalated incident and made contact with the Wings guard Kayla Thornton record.
The rookie center Kristine Anigwe and the aforementioned Thornton will host two matches each for their field fighting roles. A battered foul by Anigwe on a loose ball led to the dispute and was expanded from there.
Two other players, Diana Taurasi of Phoenix and Kaela Davis of Dallas, are suspended for individual games to leave the bench during the incident.
