A student from New York City was arrested and detained in Russia for allegedly possessing a few grams of medical marijuana.
Audrey Eliza Lorber had 19.05 grams, about two-thirds of an ounce of cannabis in her belongings when, according to the St. Petersburg court system at Pulkovo St. Petersburg, she was searched for the "United States patent for the use of marijuana in a medical program carried by the accused is not valid for the territory of the Russian Federation, "the court said.
That statement "I'm working to get Audrey home as soon as possible because no American citizen should be jailed for illness," said Re S. Max Rose, DN.Y., in a statement over the weekend.
Rose represents New York's Staten Island, where Lorder lives.
Lorber is a confirmed student at Pace University in New York School. She calls herself an aspiring filmmaker on her LinkedIn page.
A woman picking up the phone from Lorber's house on Staten Island declined to comment on Monday.
