A Utah woman became ill with Lyme disease after being bitten by a tick earlier this week during a hike near Nephi.
Bonnie Smith told FOX 13 that she is fine until she wakes up on Thursday, the day after the trek.
] "Really painful, aching joints, muscles and really, very, very weak," Smith said. "I do not have the energy to do anything."
Later, she found a small tick on her and went to the doctor who prescribed her antibiotics, reports FOX 1
While Utah was once considered relative due to long, cold winters from Lyme disease and other insect-borne diseases for sure. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the Lyme disease in Utah has tended to peak over the past decade and a half, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
