A woman who underwent surgery at the HealthPlus Surgery Center in Saddle Brook later received a letter stating that she should be checked for HIV.
According to the Department of Health, the operations center could be exposed to various infections.
The Department of Health says that although the risk of infection is low, patients should receive a blood test for hepatitis B and C as well as for HIV.
All patients in the center between January and September of this year may do so were affected.
The Ministry of Health closed the center in September for three weeks.
The center reopened as new staff were recruited and trained, the type of medication dispensing improved, and all instruments cleaned and repaired. In a statement, HealthPlus states, "We took this issue very seriously, and the decision by the New Jersey Department of Health to close down the facility provided an opportunity to focus more on quality, safety, and a consistent focus on sound guidelines Therefore, we have made significant improvements to ensure the safety and health of our patients.
