Woman says elderly Alzheimer's mother was dumped at 2am outside a locked care facility.



A Californian woman is outraged after a video showed her mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease is cared for in the middle of the night in a bathrobe and sandals in front of a locked facility Living was left alone. 19659003] Costanza Genoese Zerbi, a resident of Long Beach, said her mother, Savina Genoese Zerbi, 84, was taken from the Regency Palms residential facility to the emergency room at the College Medical Center on Jan. 12, after making suicidal comments.

Another security video shows her walking up and down a dark alley before she returns to the door. Her daughter said that she was eventually admitted to the care facility at around 3 am. It is not clear who left her in the facility.

Daughter Will Meet Hospital Officials

Costanza Zerbi said she filed a complaint with the California Department of Health against College Medical Center for sending her mother back to the care facility in a taxi.

"My mother has the cognitive abilities of a toddler," she told CNN affiliate KCAL. "It's like having a baby and throwing it on the street in the middle of the night – it's crazy, it's criminal."

Savina Zerbi refused an offer to support the transport and asked to be taken home, the hospital said, according to the partner. She added that a relative and nursing home were told she was released.

Costanza Zerbi said that her mother was particularly vulnerable because she had just lived in the care facility and that it was difficult to adapt to her new life

The reason for the lawsuit against the hospital is not to be complained But to raise awareness and make sure the hospital is better at dealing with patients like their mother, she said.

"I just want the hospital to be operating in a more responsible way," she said.

CNN has called Regency Palms, the College Medical Center, and the California Department of Public Health, but has not withdrawn.

The Californian Ministry of Public Health has informed the Long Beach Press – telegram that details of ongoing investigations remain secret until completion of the investigation.

The College Medical Center defended his actions and said that it complies with the provisions on patient discharge, but will discuss the conversation KCAL reported on the family of Zerbi.

The daughter plans to meet with hospital officials on February 11th. She said her mother was still in Regency Palms.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, a general term for the loss of memory and intellectual ability. It is a slow-moving disease that begins with memory loss and ends in severe brain damage.
