Women's Severed Heads Found in Texas, Louisiana – Are Discoveries Linked?

HOUSTON – Secluded heads were discovered near lakes in Texas and Louisiana last month, and investigators are trying to find out if the cruel discoveries are connected. The Houston Chronicle reports that the two victims were not identified but were white women with reddish hair. Their heads were found in plastic bags and similar surroundings on Lake Houston and near Calcasieu Lake. The lakes are about 150 miles apart.

A prison inmate doing cleanup found the severed head in Louisiana on March 1

. It was in a grassy swamp off Highway 27 in Cameron Township.

"It definitely was not there for years, maybe a few months," Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson told CBS subsidiary KLFY-TV last month. "The Calconieu parish coroner office will help us with the investigation."

Volunteer cleanup crews near Lake Houston made the other macabre discovery on March 24 in Huffman.

CBS Affiliate KHOU reported that the investigators were trying to locate a man who was seen in the area a few weeks earlier. Witnesses said they saw him pulling the bridge over the spot where the bag was found. He got out of his pick-up and threw a black garbage bag off the bridge.

Nobody was arrested. The Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office and Houston Police recognize similarities in the cases and share information.
