Atlanta-based rapper Lil Nas X had an unexpected hit with "Old Town Road" – a two-minute rap song on social media Media platforms gained in popularity. Even more unexpected was the ensuing remix of the track with a verse from "Achy Breaky Heart" by country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, the man behind one of the most beloved country albums of all time. It was not long before the single reached # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Pop music has a story of unexpected bedfellows. Musicians often gather to reach potentially new fans, especially when the artist they work with works in a different genre. They may just be a fan of each other's work and want to have the opportunity to work on a creative process. Some of the most famous musicians in the world – including Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift and Elton John – have taken part in unexpected musical alliances. Often a single track is recorded, but sometimes artists eventually produce a whole album of common works. With all the talents involved, it is no surprise that many of these collaborations have been very successful and have achieved critical and commercial success. Some, however, were less fortunate. Forget the horses. Wrangler has some critics on his back.

The jeans clothing company has come under fire for their new partnership with Lil Nas X, the rapper behind the viral country rap hit "Old Town Road" starring Billy Ray Cyrus.

With lyrics full of cowboy images ( "Cowboy Hat by Gucci / Wrangler on My Loot / Can No One Tell Me What to Say" ), working with Wrangler seemed like child's play.

"Psst … it's an instant hit, we introduced the new Wrangler Lil Nas X collection," the apparel company wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, adding in another post, "The song and the style attract the attention of the world. " [19659006] But the collection, which includes the title of the song and catchy lyrics on Wrangler jeans and teas, seems to attract the wrong attention. In fact, many fans have threatened to boycott the company, which they see as "cultural appropriation."
