Apple will launch three new iPhones in 2019 to succeed the current iPhone XS Max, XS and XR, and the high-end model will indeed have three cameras, while the other two Dual cameras, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The Journal does not reveal much else, but we've already seen treats show an early concept image of what an iPhone with three cameras might look like. While this particular report does not give details of what the third camera can do, expectations and rumors indicate that it is an ultra-wide angle camera with a field of view similar to that of GoPro. A number of phone manufacturers already offer an ultra-wide-angle camera on their phones: The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has one, the LG V40 also. However, the picture quality is not quite as good on these current ultra-wide-angle phone cameras, and it is expected that Apple will be able to achieve refined image quality with better picture quality.
A Triple Camera Only Reaches the Most Expensive 2019 iPhone
Apple is also considering dropping the XR's LCD screen in favor of an OLED screen. OLED displays usually have a higher contrast and show more vivid, richer colors. Currently, the iPhone XS and XS Max already have OLED screens, but the XR model has an LCD screen.
Based on this latest report, here is a brief summary of the three new iPhones 2019 (we call them the iPhone XI series here):
- iPhone XI Max: OLED screen, triple camera system
- iPhone XI: OLED Screen, Dual Camera
- iPhone XR 2019: OLED Screen, Dual Camera
It is important to note that at this point in the production timeline, Apple may not be able to change important features for the 2019 models However, the phones are not yet finalized, so other changes are possible.
So … what do you think about this early picture of the iPhones in 2019? Are you disappointed that only the most expensive iPhone (presumably the XI Max) gets a triple camera while the others are likely to stick with a dual camera setup?
