One could not expect a show without Shane to last long, Cageside.
After Shane missed a full episode of Raw, he was back in full shape to start the show by denying Kevin Owens access to his city hall. And you know what? Shane does not just keep Owens from his actions, does he?
Because Owens wins. Last week, he stormed the arena to voice his complaints and engage with wrestlers he believes offer long-term opportunities on the show. And guess what happened? Shane had to summon a "town hall" to try and fix things, while allowing a lot of the people Owens had mentioned on the show.
Liv Morgan. Apollo crews. Asuka. Kairi Sane. Each of them had similarities with SmackDown and everyone made an impression. After Roman Reigns and others were expelled from City Hall, they took his coat to tell Shane to kiss their asses.
Why should Owens stop if he gets exactly what he wants? Ali was backstage and announced he wanted an Intercontinental Championship Match. Damn, even Buddy Murphy has turned up!
Owens was called back to the arena after attacking Shane at City Hall, where he was forced to fight Dolph Ziggler. It quickly became a pseudo-lumberjack match where all of Shane's buddies went to the ring, scowling and planning Owens' fall. And while they were busy looking mean, Owens was busy numbing her boss again and throwing him out of the arena.
To be fair, that's a kind of lackluster finish. It's not the kind of thing you need to search through YouTube or whatever. But it's still pretty wild to watch a good guy get what he wants so thoroughly.
Moon vs. Bayley
Wow. This came from nowhere.
For weeks, Moon was tormented in backstage sessions by Fire and Desire. And for weeks, their feud was a small filler for episodic television. Gosh, how fast things can change.
After being challenged to a tag team match last week, Moon had to find a partner who could compete with the two tyrants. This partner was the women's SmackDown champion, Bayley, and this team brought out Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose in a short time.
But then the fun started. Bayley was asked in the ring who their next opponent would be, and Bayley quickly said how relieved she was to finally get rid of Alexa Bliss. Now she wants to raise the SmackDown squad again and fight someone who is brand new.
And then she turned around and smiled at Ember Moon. She has not done anything for for so long, although I've written so many times in these reviews that I want more moon. Yeah, WWE should handle this better, but why should I look a gift horse in the mouth?
It's not an epic build to end a catastrophic feud, no, but it does is still Bayley vs Moon, it has the makings of being excellent, and the first step is buy-in as a fan. Now, all that I said in the Raw review of Raw's program is You also have to do a lot of work in a very short time, but consider myself a fan of choice – let's see what these two can do.
defeat Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, and Elias. The New Day – Speaking of title contenders, I think we have our next opponent for WWE Champion Kofi Kingston: Randy Orton After Orton was mocked by Kingston in his old age because of his slackness, he beat back with an RKO to Pin down the champion, Orton and Kings Sound has a lot of history, so it could be really fun.
Charlotte def. Liv Morgan – I think Morgan had the best night of all wrestlers on SmackDown. After questioning Charlotte at City Hall and accusing her of being completely wrong – damn Liv! – She also had some great moments in a relatively short match with the Queen.
Your vow at the end was equally fascinating. It will be more "real" next time, right? Hell yes, Liv. I can not wait any longer.
Aleister Black def. Cesaro – Black kicking of mouthpiece from Cesaros mouth was a fantastic picture. Good that they have something at their disposal to make Black look even cooler.
Daniel Bryan has no words. – That's a joke, Daniel. Come on dude. We hope to hear his earth-shattering announcement next week.
The Kabuki Warriors def. The IIconics – I wish the Warriors had more support here, but there's only so much you can expect if they're not a consistent part of the show. The IIconics had some good reasons to retire and accept the count-out loss.
Apollo crews defeated. Andrade – Watch Crews Moving! He and Andrade have built up a decent little feud in recent weeks. I would like to see that there is a connection to something bigger in the future.
If you're a fan of excitement and big moments, this show was probably not for you. Nevertheless, it has laid a lot of groundwork for the coming weeks, making an overarching connection between Owens to almost anything and a sensible sense.
Not bad for a Tuesday.
It's your turn.
