Almost four decades ago, millions of people around the world watched a British prince marry a beautiful young woman, which seemed like a fairy tale. Although we know today that Prince Charles and Princess Diana have never lived happily and look back, they seem to have been doomed from the start, especially given the description of how Diana described the day of her marriage to Charles.
This is the surprising thing the princess said about her wedding to the Prince of Wales.
How Diana described her wedding day
At the age of 32, Prince Charles was under great pressure to marry and start a family. Lady Diana Spencer was considered a suitable bride for the heir. When he saw her, Prince Philip invited him to either marry her or release her.
Charles opted for the former and suggested to the woman he had met only about 12 times, but after he had asked the question, he realized that he had made a mistake.
"I absolutely wanted to get away from the 1981 wedding when I discovered during the engagement how dreadful the prospects were of having no chance to meet Diana in advance," Charles allegedly told the biographer Robert Jobson, who authored the book. Charles At Seventy: Thoughts, Hopes And Dreams.
Diana was also not crazy about the idea and in an audio recording for the documentary titled Diana: In her own words the princess is heard telling her sisters she did not know whether she could make the wedding through.
Despite all the doubts they both had of saying "I do," the royal wedding took place on July 29, 1981, and Diana was titled "The Worst Day of my life "is life.
Things were bad from the beginning
We now know that Princess Diana and Prince Charles did not fit together, but it did not take long for their problems to solidify. They started their honeymoon.
] According to royal author Penny Junor, the prince decided to read something on board the Royal Yacht Britannia for a 14-day cruise on the Mediterranean. Diana was not pleased that he wanted to do that instead of paying attention to her.
In her book The Duchess: The Untold Story Junor said, "Diana was not a great reader and was offended he should prefer to bury his head in a book instead of sitting down to her and to talk to her.
The Royal Writer said that the Princess's misfortune persisted when they arrived at the Queen's Estate in Scotland. hated the passion of his family for horses and dogs, hated the rain that poured down relentlessly; and she felt that her husband avoids intimate contact.
Charles replied that he left others, like his secretary Michael Colborne, to look after Diana.
"For six hours, Diana sat there distractedly over a plate of sandwiches at lunchtime while she cried, walked across the room, kicked furniture, and raved about everything and everyone. which she hated so much, and then fell into brooding silence before she started all over again, "Junor wrote.
Not happy since
Over the years, things got worse through public scandals and mud battles and explosive interviews that tell everything.
