YouTube offers developers new ways to earn money

The VidCon takes place in Anaheim, California. The conference is the most important event of the year for YouTube creators – and therefore the video hub's annual launch pad for features that can turn their channels into cash.

The creators want us to continue to develop new products and find interesting ways to stay connected and give something back to their fans, "said Neal Mohan, YouTube's chief product officer, who hosted a VidCon keynote address on Thursday. Here's what he has revealed:

Super Stickers are animated sticker packs featuring themes like games, sports, and cooking that fans can pay for use in live streams. They participate in the Super Chat, which fans can use to pay tribute to their messages during the stream, and which YouTube currently uses on 90,000 channels.

The Merch function with the creator can sell physical goods such as T-shirts, was launched with a partner, Teespring. Now there are more to come, including Crowdmade and Rooster Teeth.

Multilevel Paid Channel Memberships are based on a major announcement from Vidcon last year. Instead of a single $ 4.99 monthly plan for fans, developers can now offer up to six different membership levels. Mohan says Fine Brothers, whose React channel React is approaching 20 million subscribers, has increased its revenue sixfold by adding a second tier.

YouTube also announces two new features that will do good and not just do good: [1

9659003] Learning Playlists are educational material optimized playlists that, according to Mohan, are "cautiously" released on popular channels such as CrashCourse and Khan Academy become. They allow such developers to collect videos in course-like collections and remove the Next module, which could otherwise distract a viewer's attention. "You get a much focussed experience," says Mohan.

With YouTube Giving creators can add a donation button to their channel, with 100% of the funds going to charities selected by the creator from a list approved by recognized organizations.

How many people live the dream of earning a living with YouTube videos? Mohan told me that the total revenue from all monetization options, including advertising, in the five- to six-digit range per year increased by 40% over the previous year. However, the company does not disclose accurate figures on the amount of creators that earn so much.

Many YouTube creators use alternative methods, such as Patreon, to get paid by people who love their work. According to Mohan, developers are keen to find new ways to earn money directly on YouTube. "They know that their most passionate and dedicated fans are their YouTube Followers and YouYube audiences," he says. "And so that's really always the center of everything they do."
