On October 16, YouTube suffered a disruption that affected all users, including YouTube Music and YouTube TV customers. Although the sites did not take a long time to shut down before recovery, Google offers a one-week service credit to affected YouTube TV customers. A new support page has been created where customers can redeem their funds.
YouTube TV subscribers received an email from YouTube apologizing for the failure this week. "We love our TV just as much as you, and our goal is to make sure you can access your events and shows – when and how you want," the email says.
Customers who subscribed on October 16 can now go to this Google support page and enter their email address to redeem a free week of service. The user must enter the email address associated with their YouTube TV account to receive the credit. The redemption period is only available until October 24th.
YouTube has confirmed the failure on its YouTube Twitter account by stating that it is working to restore the service. It was only minutes later when the service posted another tweet announcing that YouTube was back online, but no explanation was given for the downtime.
