Zero Escape Director unveils Virtual Pop Idol from the upcoming game

You may recognize Kotaro Uchikoshi in his work for the Zero Escape games (999, Virtue's Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma), and you may be familiar with Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa murder mystery series. However, it seems that they are taking an unexpected step towards their next game. They promote their own virtual pop idol and influencer. What a time to be alive.

Iris Sagan, also known by the stage name A-Set or Tesa, is considered an important figure in Uchikoshi and Spike Chunsoft's upcoming game AI: The Somnium Files. It is worth noting that her design is by artist Yusuke Kozaki, best known for his character designs in Fire Emblem Awakening (including Fates and Heroes) and the series No More Heroes.

Apparently Iris is a great streamer, internet pop star and 1

8-year-old high school student at the same time. And it seems that she has an active Twitter account along with a video in which Mr. Uchikoshi introduces herself to A-Set, followed by a kind of music video in which she becomes an original song dance and sing (Feeling) Here you can make yourself a picture of me.

I would like to refer to myself as an authority on digital pop idols, as I am still on Rise Kujikawa (Persona 4) and Hatsune Miku is the gold standard – so my fandom lays the bar is pretty high. But I will not completely write down Iris (or A-Set), especially if this leads to a bigger narrative for AI: the Somnium files.

AI: The Somnium files were first unveiled during a panel at Anime Expo 2018, and Iris was first introduced as a key figure. Not much has been said about the game itself, but it has similarities to the developers' previous games. You play as a Kaname Date and investigate a series of murders that require you to solve puzzles and collect evidence that hopefully leads to sound conclusions. The launch is planned for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC this year.
